A Botched Invasion at the Bay of Pigs

Updated: Nov 23, 2021

The Bay of Pigs invasion was a failed landing operation on the southwestern coast of Cuba in 1961 by Cuban exiles who opposed Fidel Castro'sCuban Revolution. Covertly financed and directed by theU.S. government, the operation took place at the height of the Cold War and its failure led to major shifts in international relations between Cuba, theUnited States, and the Soviet Union. The plan anticipated that the Cuban people and elements of the Cuban military would support the invasion. The ultimate goal was the overthrow of Castro and the establishment of a non-communist government friendly to the United States.

IGCSE History student created the front page of a newspaper detailing the Bay of Pigs incident.
