Clarity through Brevity: Re-purposing Six – Word Memoir in History Classroom

Updated: Nov 23, 2021

The six-word memoir activity motivates students to be concise but also reflective. Grade 6 used this project to define ‘What is History?’ The six-word memoir was an exceptional way to get students to concentrate on making a point across in as few words as possible. They chose words specifically since they can't waste any. The activity also focused on their critical thinking skill by letting them know words are valuable and have meaning -- don't waste them. Students wrote brilliant descriptions that exhibited an aptitude to use the English language creatively and productively simultaneously instilling knowledge of History.
