The lesson on 'Star and Planets' presented an opportunity for students to hypothesize on the life of a star, based on what they already knew. Students also came across a lot of detailed information on the life of a star. This activity gave them the opportunity to formalize their understanding. Using their own words and drawings, students documented details from the life of a star. The drawings were comprehensive in terms of the different paths stars might take. The key was that students understood the basics.
Students were directed to create a comic strip that explains the process of a star-forming. They were challenged to come up with their own explanations—no copying and pasting. I did mention they don't have to be obsessed about being exact. Instead, they can highlight the different attributes and characteristics of each star stage in a way that explains the differences to readers.
