India at Home - An Augmented Reality Experience

Updated: Jun 30, 2022

Augmented reality superimposes sounds, videos and graphics onto an existing environment. It uses four main components to superimpose images on current backgrounds: cameras and sensors processing projection and reflection.

Benefits of Augmented Reality in Education

Student engagement and interest: When students can participate in creating educational content, their interest skyrockets. Educators can use augmented reality technologies to supplement curricular content, construct virtual worlds, and explore new hobbies.

Learning Environment: Classes that use augmented reality can help students become more engaged. An interactive learning environment enables the implementation of hands-on learning strategies that can boost student engagement, enrich the learning experience, and motivate students to acquire and practise new skills.

Content understanding: Existing augmented reality technology enables teachers to construct immersive educational experiences on their own to ensure their pupils understand curricular information.

Memory: AR is a fantastic tool for bringing courses to life and aiding pupils in recalling critical elements. Instead of simply displaying photos of India on a projector, I employed augmented reality technology to create memorable interactive narratives.

Sensory Development: Teachers can use augmented reality technology to build lesson plans that incorporate multisensory experiences. Students benefit from immersive virtual content that integrates an experiential learning approach in which students participate in physical activities rather than simply watching a presentation. This method may aid in sensory development.

By one of Grade 6 Student: - Recently, in sixth-grade Geography lessons, we've been learning "All About India," and to spice things up, our teacher shared with us an Augmented Reality Experience that allowed us to tour most of India from the comfort of our own homes. This experience enabled us to visit some ancient and historical locations such as the Kashmiri Gate Route, The Old City Gate Route, Rajasthan state archives museum, Chowkri Modikhana in Jaipur, a famous heritage walking site, and the Ridge Route, all of which were accessible via technology at our own space. This Augmented experience was a lot of fun and fascinating, and it taught us a lot about the unique Indian cultures and let us visit some of India's most stunning landmarks!
